LOS ANGELES, Jul 2, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Horizon Air announced today that it will offer daily, year-round nonstop service between Los Angeles International Airport and Sun Valley, Idaho, starting Dec. 15, 2002.

The once-daily service will be operated with high-speed, 70-seat Q400 turboprop aircraft. Horizon Air currently serves Sun Valley with daily nonstop service from Seattle.

Wallace Huffman, Sun Valley Resort general manager said, "We're extremely excited about this new nonstop, direct air service from Los Angeles to Sun Valley. These daily flights are the first ever flights from Southern California to Sun Valley in the more than 65 years of our operations. This service will allow Sun Valley to compete with other Western ski resorts that have had direct service from this market. This will be a year-round stimulus to the economic health of the Ketchum Sun Valley community."

Sun Valley, called the ultimate ski experience by some, has two fabulous mountains: Baldy, considered by serious skiers as the supreme ski destination, and Dollar, a beginner's paradise with gentle, sunny slopes groomed to perfection. Sun Valley is considered an equally stellar warm-weather playground. Anglers wade hip-deep in the same streams Ernest Hemingway cherished, while golfers enjoy courses that combine scenery and technical challenges. Restaurants, nightlife, boutiques and galleries abound and are all easily accessed by the free public transportation that links the area together.

Reservations for the new flights are available now by calling Horizon Air at 1-800/547-9308, or on the Web at www.horizonair.com. Sun Valley ski package information, including air travel on Horizon Air, is also available at the website or by calling Alaska Airlines Vacations at 1-800/468-2248. Ski packages go on sale in early September.

Horizon Air has served Los Angeles International Airport since 1999. Currently, Horizon provides service from Los Angeles to Boise, Idaho and Medford and Eugene, Ore. Horizon's sister carrier Alaska Airlines offers nonstop jet service from L.A. to Seattle, Portland, Anchorage, Vancouver, B.C., Calgary, Alberta, and six resort destinations in Mexico.

Founded 20 years ago, Horizon Air has grown to become the nation's tenth largest regional airline, serving nearly five million passengers last year. Horizon serves 43 cities throughout California, Colorado, Arizona, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, British Columbia, and Alberta. Horizon Air and Alaska Airlines are subsidiaries of Alaska Air Group, Inc. (NYSE:ALK).
