Grocery Shopping Takes Flight with Alaska Airlines/Safeway Partnership

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 12, 2002--Shoppers can now put Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles in their grocery cart with every shopping trip to a Safeway store in Alaska, Idaho, Montana and parts of Washington.

Safeway customers in those states can earn 125 miles in Alaska's popular frequent flyer program for every $250 spent at participating Safeway locations. A routine trip to the grocery store now puts shoppers closer to a free flight on Alaska, Horizon or eight other airline partners.

To earn miles, customers must be enrolled in Mileage Plan and have a Safeway Club Card.

Not a member of Mileage Plan? Enroll online at www.alaskaair.com and receive a 500-mile bonus. To receive credit, Mileage Plan members must fill out a Safeway Club Card application at any Safeway location and include their Mileage Plan number on the application. For details, go to www.alaskaair.com and click on "promotions."

With Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan, members have a variety of airlines to choose from for mileage earning and award travel, including four major U.S. carriers -- more than any other frequent flyer program. Members have access to destinations throughout the world.

Safeway is a Fortune 500 company and one of the largest food drug retailers in North America based on sales. The company operates over 1782 stores in the United States and western Canada and had annual sales of $34.3 billion in 2001.

The nation's ninth largest carrier, Alaska celebrates its 70th anniversary this year. Alaska and its regional partner, Horizon Air, together serve 83 cities in the Lower 48, Alaska, Canada and Mexico.
