Alaska, Horizon Customers Now Can Purchase Tickets Online for Travel with Connecting Flights on Northwest
Previously, itineraries that included travel on Northwest required a paper ticket, which could not be purchased online, or separate electronic tickets purchased from Alaska or Horizon and Northwest.
The change is the result of an interline electronic ticketing agreement between the three carriers. The agreement is the second of nearly 20 interline electronic ticketing agreements Alaska and Horizon plan to initiate this year with airline partners. A similar agreement was introduced last week with American Airlines.
Under the agreement, electronic tickets will also be issued automatically when an itinerary that includes travel on Northwest is purchased at any of the carriers' ticket counters or through their telephone reservations centers.
The agreement allows customers who purchase electronic tickets directly from Alaska and Horizon that include travel on Northwest to check in for the Alaska and Horizon segments of their itinerary online or at any Instant Travel Machine (ITM) self check-in kiosk.
Northwest Airlines is the world's fourth largest airline with hubs at Detroit, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Memphis, Tokyo and Amsterdam, and approximately 1,500 daily departures.
The nation's ninth largest carrier, Alaska Airlines was just named 2003 Technology Leader of the Year by Air Transport World magazine. Alaska and its sister carrier, Horizon Air, together serve more than 80 cities in the Lower 48, Alaska, Canada and Mexico. For reservations go to www.alaskaair.com or call Alaska's toll-free reservations line at 1-800-ALASKAAIR (1-800-252-7522).
