Alaska Airlines/Horizon Air Introduce 'Thank You Fares' for Military Personnel

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 30, 2003--In appreciation for their service, Alaska Airlines (NYSE:ALK) and Horizon Air are introducing "Thank You Fares" for members of the U.S. military, as well as special fares for families traveling to visit seriously injured military members.

"We want to show our appreciation in a tangible way for the dedication and sacrifice made by the men and women of the armed forces," said Bill Ayer, Alaska Airlines president and CEO. "As many of them return from abroad, they deserve the gratitude of every American."

The "Thank You Fares," which provide savings of up to 45 percent off regular fares, are available to active and reserve military and their immediate families traveling with them. They must be purchased by Sept. 30 and are valid for travel through Feb. 12, 2004. To book "Thank You Fares" call Alaska's toll-free reservations line at 1-800-ALASKAAIR (1-800-252-7522) or Horizon's at 1-800-547-9308.

In addition, to address the needs of the families of those who were injured, Alaska and Horizon will waive the advance-purchase, minimum and maximum-stay provisions and change fees for immediate family members traveling to visit a seriously injured patient.

Families of the injured will be required to provide an authorizing letter from the appropriate commander, the Red Cross or the assigned Casualty Assistance Officer. The family assistance fares are booked through the Alaska Airlines commercial desk at 1-888-327-2755, between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

"Thank You Fares" travel must originate in the United States and requires a 3-day-advance roundtrip reservation. Tickets must be purchased within 24 hours of when the reservation is made or 3 days in advance of departure, whichever comes first. A Friday or Saturday-night stay is required, and travel must be completed within 30 days of departure. Qualifying travelers must show military I.D. at the time of travel. Seats are limited, and other restrictions apply.
