Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air Announce Denver Service

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 9, 2002--Alaska Airlines and its sister carrier, Horizon Air, will inaugurate service April 28 between Denver and the Pacific Northwest.

The new service will connect Seattle, Portland and Boise to Denver with six daily nonstop flights -- three from Seattle on Alaska, and two from Portland and one from Boise on Horizon.

"From Seattle alone, Denver now represents the fourth most popular destination for travelers," said Gregg Saretsky, Alaska's senior vice president of marketing and planning. "Our new service to Denver will build on the strength of Alaska's Seattle hub, as well as Horizon's Portland and Boise hubs."

Alaska flights 82 and 97 will provide same-plane, continuing service between Anchorage and Denver, while Horizon's service between Denver and Boise will provide same-plane continuing service to Portland for a third flight connecting the Mile-High City to the Rose City.

Alaska will use 138-seat Boeing 737-400s on the new route, while Horizon will use its new 70-seat CRJ-700 jets.

Founded in 1932, Seattle-based Alaska Airlines is the ninth largest commercial air carrier in the United States. The airline will celebrate its 70th anniversary this year and was recently voted "World's Best Domestic Airline" by readers of Travel+Leisure magazine.

Last year Horizon, headquartered in Seattle with primary hubs in Portland, Boise and Seattle, celebrated its 20th anniversary. The carrier is one of the largest regional carriers in the United States.

Alaska and Horizon together serve 80 cities in the Lower 48, Alaska, Canada and Mexico.
