SEATTLE, Aug 5, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Alaska Air Group, Inc. (NYSE:ALK) today reported July passenger traffic for its subsidiaries, Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air.

    ALASKA AIRLINES

Alaska Airlines' July traffic increased 2.1 percent to 1.308 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) from 1.281 billion flown a year earlier. Capacity during July was 1.810 billion available seat miles (ASMs), 3.4 percent higher than the 1.750 billion in July 2001.

The passenger load factor (the percentage of available seats occupied by fare paying passengers) for the month was 72.2 percent, compared to 73.2 percent in July 2001. The airline carried 1,400,300 passengers compared to 1,437,100 in July 2001.

RPMs for the seven-month period totaled 7.657 billion, a 2.6 percent increase from the 7.466 billion recorded a year earlier. Capacity for the seven months ended July 2002 increased 3.2 percent to 11.206 billion ASMs, compared to 10.861 billion in 2001.

The passenger load factor for the first seven months of 2002 was 68.3 percent, compared to 68.7 percent in 2001. The airline carried 8,209,500 passengers compared to 8,332,700 in 2001.

    HORIZON AIR

Horizon Air's July traffic increased 7.4 percent to 144.2 million RPMs from 134.3 million flown a year earlier. Capacity for July was 225.2 million ASMs, 10.2 percent higher than last year's 204.4 million.

The passenger load factor for the month was 64.1 percent, compared to 65.7 percent last July. The airline carried 446,000 passengers compared to 452,500 in July 2001.

RPMs for the seven months ended July 2002 totaled 847.6 million, a 2.4 percent increase from the 827.7 million recorded a year earlier. Capacity for the seven-month period increased 3.0 percent to 1.363 billion ASMs, compared to 1.323 billion in 2001.

The passenger load factor for the first seven months of 2002 was 62.2 percent, compared to 62.6 percent in 2001. The airline carried 2,732,900 passengers, compared to 2,879,900 in 2001.
